Today, the Faculty of Medicine's new goods reception in Lund was inaugurated. Handling shipments for recipients, suppliers, and Med-service personnel will now be more convenient.

The new goods reception's very first customer showed up in the trembling seconds just before the inauguration speech on Monday, to pick up a parcel from the brand new parcel locker. How did it feel?

"Well… It's just like picking up… a package! said doctoral student Madeleine Borg with a laugh and continued, "Of course it's convenient to be able to pick up the package yourself."

If the recipient cannot be found, the parcel is delivered to the parcel locker.

Perhaps you have wondered what the construction that has cordoned off our yard at BMC for a long time has been about. They were building our new goods reception, with a much needed access to the culverts.

"We will serve about 5,000 people at the Faculty in Lund, including employees and students. It's not just about shipments, but also about various consumables, such as toilet paper, which are also delivered here," explained Hugh Connell, Head of Unit at Med-service, in his inauguration speech.

The popcorn machine was running hot, the cider was refreshing and the atmosphere was proud of the new goods reception, which hopefully will make it easier for everyone concerned.

The main purpose of building a new goods reception has been to create a single point of contact for receiving, delivering and distributing shipments.

"In this way, handling is simplified. Now there is only one address that applies, for all concerned, and we avoid people getting lost or not knowing which address to use. The goal is for all transports at BMC to pass through the goods reception, said Hugh Connell.

The goods reception has also been built with consideration for the working environment for the employees at Med-service, where efforts have been made to minimise the heavy lifting. Much of the heavy transport is delivered down to the culverts, and now with a freight elevator, the culverts underground can be easily reached and the goods can be hoisted up and down if necessary.

The logistics around the goods reception are also planned with sustainability in mind, so that it is easy to comply with future regulations, without having to rebuild.
