Courses in higher education pedagogy

To ensure good-quality education and learning environments at the faculty, you who teach at the faculty need to be provided the opportunity for professional development as a teacher and preparation for teaching.

Courses in higher education pedagogy at the faculty are organized by MedCUL (the Centre for teaching and learning at the Faculty of medicine).

How to choose a course in higher education pedagogy

  • If you do not have any previous education in higher education pedagogy: apply for the basic course Perspectives on learning. This course is compulsory if you are applying to become an associate professor (docent) and for teaching positions at the faculty.
  • If you have completed Perspectives on learning (or an equivalent course): apply for Perspectives on course design. This course is compulsory for teaching positions at the faculty.
  • When you have completed Perspectives on learning and Perspective on course design (or equivalent courses), you can apply for other courses such as Perspectives on assessment. By combining courses you can reach Lund university's goal of ten weeks education in higher education pedagogy for all teaching staff.

If you have questions about entry requirements and whether you can be given credit for other courses in higher education pedagogy, contact Kajsa Lamm (kajsa [dot] lamm [at] med [dot] lu [dot] se).

Higher education pedagogy

The teaching qualifications required for employment as academic teacher consists of at least ten weeks of full time studies. The purpose of the training is to support the development of the basic teaching proficiency required for employment as a teacher in higher education. The entry requirement is an undergraduate degree or equivalent knowledge obtained through professional experience.

Lund university's longterm goal is that all teachers should have attained the learning outcomes associated with ten weeks of education in higher education pedagogy. To qualify for a position as academic teacher at the Faculty of medicine, the learning outcomes associated with five weeks of education in higher education pedagogy must be attained. Teachers should then be offered to further develop their competency in higher education pedagogy/medical pedagogy.

In accordance with the general learning outcomes for the teaching qualifications required for employment as academic teacher set by SUHF, The Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions, the undergraduate education board has defined learning outcomes for five and ten weeks of education in higher education pedagogy respectively.
