New secure strong authentication: Using Freja+ to log into REDCap

What is Freja+?

Freja+ is a free, government-approved e-identification with a very high level of security that can be used as a physical ID in the mobile phone. Freja+ is already used as a mobile e-ID when logging in to LUSEC and from 9 October also for REDCap.

As a REDCap user, what does this mean for me?

  • If you have a Swedish personal identity number, coordination number or European equivalent, you must log in using Freja+.
  • Download Freja and install it on your mobile phone.
  • Create a Freja identity: Register for Freja+ to ensure the right level of security.
  • Link your Freja identity to LU Passport, Lund University's account management portal: Passport - Password portal (lu.se). Log in to Passport with your Lucat ID. Select Configure strong authentication and then Freja. If you already have Freja+ for LUSEC, there is no need for a new connection.
  • if you for any reeason, can not use Freja+, you can use Google Authenticator. Follow the guide How to configure strong authentication (MFA) for LUSEC or REDCap.

How to start using Freja+ as an eID

  1. Install Freja on your mobile phone. Have your passport or national identity card at hand.
  2. Set up your basic account details: your email and PIN code.
  3. Verify your identity with a photo and valid ID. Either via your passport or national ID directly in the app or via ATG agents with a driving licence or similar.

How to configure strong authentication (MFA) at LU Support – Lund University

Why a new multi-factor authentication (MFA) for REDCap?

Lund University needs to strengthen the protection of several important e-services and platforms. Therefore, a new login method (multi-factor authentication, MFA) will step by step be introduced for LU's digital services that require a higher level of security, Freja+ as eID.
