End-of-life for PC on the way: Update before Windows 10 is retired

Computer on table. Photo.

In about 2 years, Windows 10 will reach end-of-life. This means that anyone who still has PCs running Windows 10 as their operating system will need to update to Windows 11. In order not to risk being without a computer, it may be a good idea to plan for the upgrade already now.

How can I tell if my computer has Windows 10?
Read Microsoft's instructions on how to see what operating system your computer is running.

Can I update to Windows 11 without getting a new PC?
In most cases yes, but you should contact Med IT for help with assessment.

How long is the delivery time for a new computer?
If you choose a stocked computer from Med IT's web shop, it takes about 1-3 working days. Order items take between 3-6 weeks.

How should I deal with lab equipment running with Windows 10?
First of all, as a researcher, you can ask your supplier if the equipment works with Windows 11. If not, you need to contact Med IT.

What happens if I don't replace or upgrade my PC when Windows 10 reaches end-of-life?
Apart from the fact that it becomes vulnerable, it may be blocked on our networks within Lund University.
