Panel discussion – How do you organize an academic seminar or workshop?

To organize your own seminar or workshop has the potential to raise scientific perspectives or receiving input from a wider audience. But what do you need to keep in mind when organizing events? What is the purpose, who is your audience, what format do you want to use and what is the time frame?
The event is organized by the Agenda 2030 Graduate School. Priority will be given to early career researchers at Lund University, but anyone affiliated to Lund University are welcome to register.
Programme
In this panel discussion, experts from different organizations within Lund University share their experiences and insights on what it takes to create a successful academic event. After a fika break, the session goes into an open 'workshop' session for development of activities that you might have plans to arrange. Perhaps you want to arrange an activity on our next PhD conference on Sustainable Development? Or have an idea that you would like to get input on? Feel free to discuss your ideas with the Agenda 2030 Graduate School's office and some of the panelists.
The invited panelists are the following:
- Cheryl Sjöström - coordinator of the graduate research school ClimBEco. She has an interdisciplinary background and experience in initiating, hosting and moderating events, particularly for early-career researchers.
- Claire McKay - the Research Coordinator of LU's Lund Stem Cell Center (SCC) and the Strategic Research Area "StemTherapy". Claire specialises in organising, coordinating and hosting numerous different events, from meetings, workshops and seminar series to large conferences, all of which play a big role in SCC's community and strategy.
- Jesica López - a Postdoctoral Fellow at CEC with expertise in Systems thinking. She brings valuable insights into the organization and execution of impactful academic seminars and workshops on multi stakeholders’ settings.
- Tullia Jack - a sociologist specializing in sustainable consumption, has extensive experience in organising academic events that foster critical discourse and knowledge exchange. From intimate workshops to international conferences, she has a passion for bringing scholars together, coordinating events such as the Methods that Make a Difference workshop and multiple Nordic Network for Sustainable Consumption meetings.
